A Canadian Challenge Le Defi Quebecois
Published in Paperback by Oolichan Books (October, 1990)
Author: Christian Dufour
Average review score:

From one Quebecer to another
I worked with Christian briefly and found his knowledge of politics and Quebec very inspiring. I really enjoyed his book, his convictions and his viewpoint. I think a Quebecois can understand this book better but don't let this discourage you from reading it. It's worth the price!

The Canadian Cycling Association's Complete Guide to Bicycle Touring in Canada
Published in Paperback by Great Northern Books (March, 1994)
Author: Elliott Katz
Average review score:

Good, but use with caution and good maps
Since I haven't travelled all of the routes in this book, I can only rate it by the parts near me. I live (and cycle) near Ottawa. Mr. Katz's recommended route is just fine, but mis-described. He refers to Hope Side Road as regional road 49, which is Eagleson, March, and Almonte Roads, but not Hope Side Road. This description occurs twice in two different routes.

The other obvious point is that this edition was published in 1994; amalgamation of municipalities and downloading of provincial roads with lots of changes of numbers makes a current local map even more necessary. And an older map might be handy for understanding some of the routes.

Canadian Policy Toward Khrushchev's Soviet Union
Published in Hardcover by McGill-Queens University Press (May, 2003)
Author: Jamie Glazov
Average review score:

Nice try, Mr Glazov
It seems people never give up trying to start ridiculous smear campaigns against some of the greatest political leaders of the past century. Mr Glazov has it in for Diefenbaker. He's just dying to make Diefenbaker look bad. He wants Diefenbaker's blood. But it's not going to work, Glazov! Everyone knows who caused the Cold War (the United States) and all the gallons of white paint you try to throw over this fact aren't going to change it. Anyway, just remember, I know what you're up to, and I'll be watching you Glazov. I give this book three stars because it's at least a nice try. Glazov's a liar, but a talented one.

Canadians on Everest
Published in Hardcover by Detselig Enterprises (December, 1990)
Authors: Bruce Patterson and Colleen Campbell
Average review score:

Documentary like account of three Canadian Everest trips.
Apart from the dry narrative and general seriousness of the book, the accounts of the three big Canadian expeditions on Everest are interesting. However, other than the first chapter, which examines why we climb, the text is generally lifeless and tends to focus on events and the main characters rather than draw the reader into the story.

Similar in tone to Jim Curran's documentary style account of K2's ascents in "K2 the Story of the Savage Mountain", this book will probably not interest those who prefer imagery laden text and introspective comments.

Charter of Rights and the Legalization of Politics in Canada
Published in Paperback by Thompson Educational Pub (January, 1994)
Author: Michael J. Mandel
Average review score:

Difficult Reading, but right on the money
Mandel's work is extremely comprehensive in nature and long winded at some points. He goes to great lengths to support his ideals, but loses the reader's interest several times. If you can read through all the legal mumbo-jumbo, Mandel has some incredible and unique insights on the Charter of Rights to offer. This is a great book for anyone interested in Canadian government or Politics.

Chilton's Honda Accord/Prelude 1984-91: All U.S. and Canadian Models of Accord and Prelude Ual

Plymouth voyager 1993-1994
The book has good information, but it is not as complete as it needs to be. We need more information on the timing proceedure.

Chilton's Nissan Pick-Ups 1998-01 Repair Manual: Covers U.S. and Canadian Models of Frontier Pick-Ups (1998 Thru 2001) Xterra (2000 and 2001) Pathfinder (1996 Thru 2001) (Chilton's Total Car Care Repair Manual)
Published in Paperback by Chilton/Haynes (September, 2002)
Author: Jeff Kibler
Average review score:

vague like all Chilton
This book covers 3 different models (Frontier, Xterra, Pathfinder) with 3 different engines (2.4L, 3.3L, 3.5L) with manual and automatic transmissions and 2 and 4 wheel drive. Probably 1/3 or more of the material is the general information on engine rebuilding, cooling systems, body repair, etc. that is included in every Chilton book ever printed.

If you own a 2.4L 4x2 Frontier ('98-'00 is best, '01+ is still ok) then you'll get the most information. The vehicle they "tear down" appears to be a 1998 2.4L 4x2 with auto. The procedures are ok and the pics are mediocre to poor. The wiring diagrams along with the locations of various components are probably the most useful information.

The 3.3L Xterra and 4x4 Frontier have some material, but not as much as 2.4L Frontier. The Pathfinder has the least amount of dedicated material and is probably not worth the price of this book.

Chilton's Repair and Tune-Up Guide: Ford Bronco 1966-86: All U.S. and Canadian Models of Full-Size Bronco (Repair and Tune-Up Guide Series)
Published in Paperback by Chilton/Haynes (August, 1900)
Authors: Chilton Book Company, Richard J. Rivele, and Kerry A. Freeman
Average review score:

Not enough early Bronco info
This is the second repair manual that I purchased that covers the '66 to '77 Bronco, as well as others. The first was the Haynes Pick-ups & Broncos 1973 thru 1979, and I can say without a doubt that the Chiltons manual is far superior. However, it still tends to concentrate on the '78 and later Broncos. I have a '76, and while it gives relatively detailed instructions for the later models, it usually only gives vague instructions for the early trucks, or omits them altogether. It's a handy reference, but not sufficient for more involved work or restoration. Your best bet is still the factory service manual.
